The church of Padre Pio, also known as the Shrine of Padre Pio, is a Catholic place of worship in San Giovanni Rotondo, in the province of Foggia, in the territory of the Archdiocese of Manfredonia-Vieste-San Giovanni Rotondo.
The more recent history of the town of San Giovanni Rotondo coincides with that of the Convent and Padre Pio of Pietrelcina, who reached July 28, 1916. Here, since the September 23, 1968, lived and died in Padre Pio of Pietrelcina. The town of San Giovanni Rotondo was founded in 1095 on the ruins of a former village of the fourth century BC, of this village are still visible signs, such as some of the tombs and a circular baptistery (the epithet "Round" is derived from this) that once was dedicated to the worship of Janus, two-faced God, and was later dedicated to Saint John the Baptist. Nestled in a beautiful valley almost 600 feet tall, San Giovanni Rotondo looks wide, with red roofs, well distributed on all sides.
